I am waiting for further books. Overall I enjoyed the book and (view spoiler) was interesting and also satisfying. There is still a lot of mystery about the southern continent. The biggest surprise of the series and that I am ashamed to say that I completely missed was (view spoiler) . So Survive!

Shadows of Self (Mistborn, #5)Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Negatives: None.
Positives: Awesome climax and ending.

I am waiting for further books. Although that last bit about (view spoiler) did not shock me much. That in itself is surprising because usual brandon sanderson twists leave me in awe. All in all it was an entertaining read and much better than the Alloy of Law.

The Alloy of Law (Mistborn, #4)The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Negatives: Not Much BuildUp (Or Maybe Detective stories are not my kind of things ).
Positives: Awesome climax ( Like All Sanderson Books ).
………………………………..
I will read further books in the series. Wax is a bit too strict for my taste but I enjoyed the wayne character.
Ironeye’s appearence made the book better. Overall it is among my least favourite sanderson books.

Bholla Baj

“Ah. Burn it. Destroy the world. Kill me.” Bholla Baj screamed, threw the book away and banged his head on the wall. Another novel had ended with a cliffhanger.
For Bholla Baj waiting for the next book after a cliffhanger was the worst torture. It was the tenth book in last two weeks that had ended without resolving anything. Next book was coming out next year if he was lucky.
“Why kill the heroine and then show her in the epilogue? It is a very cheap trick. It looks like I am more bothered by her death then the noble hero.” He knew that it was because hero was busy saving the world and will save her in the next book. Another reason might be because Bholla Baj had never spoken to a girl.
“Might be, Really?”
“I am pathetic.”
“Yes, I am talking to myself and might be mad.”
“Yes, I have been reading fantasy books for last 2 weeks and might fail tomorrow’s exam.”
“Might Fail? I am very optimistic about my chances after attending one lecture of DEM.”
“Yes, I can’t even remember what DEM means.”
It was 5 in the morning and exam was scheduled to start at 11:30am. After setting his alarm for 7am, he decided to sleep. He woke at 7am and set a new alarm for 8am.
His emergency 10am alarm woke him. Breakfast did not agree with him before exam so he decided to skip it. He borrowed some notes from his friend QSQ(Qam Saf Qas) and started skimming through them. He was bored after reading about 15 minutes so he opened his laptop. There were important things to find out like:”How long this author took to write a book?”
He knew that he was addicted to fantasy books but they were just so damn good. At this point he knew every possible twist and has not been surprised or shocked by last 20 books. But he would keep reading them.
“Why..?”
“I have no idea.”
UMSM(University of Magical Sciences Montlore) had a policy of 80% necessary attendance for sitting in exam. The teacher of this subject was very generous and had decided to forego it. So Bholla Baj had not attended any lectures except the first one.
At 11:35am he was in the examination hall and first question in front of him was “What does DEM stands for?”.
He started laughing at himself.

Chapter 2:
………………………………………………………….
“I was surprised at how easy this paper was. I don’t think anyone would get a bad grade in DEM.” Qam Saf Qas said to Abal Hlam and Sadran tuj. Any one else would have called these three his friends but Bholla thought of them as his temporary companions in the university.
“What grade would you get?”Sadran asked him.
“I don’t know.”
“How can you not know? Sir Almik has uploaded the solution. All you have to do is look at it.”
“I am not going to look at it. I want it to be a surprise.”
Those three had been his companions for 2 years and knew that he was pretty eccentric so they just shrugged.
“How was your interview with Apnet Magics?” Abal asked him.
“It went ok.” was his reply.
“We should go to canteen and eat something.” he further added.
Four of them started moving towards canteen. He was mostly quiet on the way but Qam was very excited about his new job and continued talking about how important his company was. Qam also talked about how great was the badpind city where he would be working. Abal was mostly quiet on the way because he had failed two subjects previous semester and still had to clear them. Abal was going to be alone in the hostel because DEM was the last paper of last semester.
“I am going to do an internship here in the city. If you get the job at Apnet then we should share a room.” Sadran said to Bholla.
“I am all for it.” was his reply.
“Great, I am going to a hostel to look for a room. Would you like to come?” Sadran said while eating pizza.
“Nah, I am going to sleep. I did not sleep last night. You select the room and I will share it with you” Bholla replied during a mouthful of pizza.
“Are we going to watch a movie this weekend?”Qam asked.
No one replied and they all sat in silence. Qam knew that the silence meant that no one was up for it so he let it go.
Bholla’s mobile rang and he recieved the call.
“I am calling from Apnet Magics.”A man said on phone.

Chapter 3
…………
Interlude
…………
Magic is not cool or very interesting in this world and it is certainly not Earth. This world’s name is Htar and it is situated in a universe named Raed. On Htar magic is used as fuel for running nearly everything. You can convert into electricity. You can use it to run cars and all things which we use are also present on Htar. Only difference is this that instead of using gas or petrol they use magic to create electricity. It is also used as fuel. There are no magicians. All of this conversion is being done through machines which run on strict principals. Using raw magic is more like writing a computer program and there are definately no spells.

Chapter 4
1 year later
………………………………………………………….
“Why am I doing this job?”
“Because I get money from it.”
“I was going to start my own company. Why have I not started it?”
“Because I don’t have money.”
“When will I have enough?”
“In 20 years, Maybe..”
“Do I like this job?”
“No.”
“Do I even like the business that I am going to start in 20 years?”
“No.”
“Why not end my life? Why am I even alive?”
“I am a coward. I am basically afraid of dying.”
“How many days on work have I missed since I started at Apnet Magics?”
“If you add up all days except weekly holidays. It comes close to 3 months.”
“Why have they not fired me?”
“I am good and they are short on staff.”
“If I could be anything. What would I be?”
“An unobserved ghost.”
“What do I want with life?”
“No idea…..”
“Should I go to a doctor?”
“Yes, Defintely.”
After staring into empty space for another 30 minutes Bholla got up and started his laptop. He typed his resignation and emailed it to Apnet Magics.

Words of Radiance (The StormLight Archive #2) Review

Warning: This Post contains Spoilers.

Negatives: Underwhelming villain, Jasnah’s death.
Positives: Great buildup, Awesome climax and ending, Great side stories.
Others: Multiple POVs,
………………………………..
I am waiting for further books. Lift was awesome. I am hoping for more of her chapters in upcoming books. This book has some great moments and its climax is just.. awesome. Sanderson’s climaxes are always great but this was something else. Kaladin had great moments but looked underwhelming compared to first book(But it was Shallan’s book and first was Kaladin’s so it is understandable). Shallan was better then first book.
………………………………..
Jasnah’s supposed death was disappointing. I thought it was unnecessary.

Hope for a Miracle

misbah-ul-haq-pakistan-salute-lords_3746759

Our team did it in 1992. They were lucky to reach the semi final but 2 good days and they lifted the cup. But I have no memories of this event. My earliest memories of world cup are of 1999. Pakistan beating Australia in group stage, our loss to Bangladesh. Semi final dominance over New Zealand and then the crushing defeat in final.

I did not followed them from 1999 to 2003 but you do follow the world cup. So it was that I watched us defeated by Australia, India and England and crash out in the group stage. I followed our cricket team from 2003 to 2007 through their triumphs in India and disappointments in Australia. Funny thing is I was confident about our team’s chances going into 2007 world cup. We had a great middle and lower order and good bowling attack and I watched us crash out after losing to Ireland in first round. How can you feel so attached to the performance of 11 men that you have never met in real life? Why the result of a single match affects my mood? I have no answers.

T20 cricket came. We have done pretty good in it too. 4 semi finals , 2 finals and 1 title is a very good performance. But world cup still has its charm. I stopped following cricket around 2010-11. But still I watched the 2011 world cup and we performed very well with a team that was not very strong. We had a good bowling attack but terrible batting. Loss in semi final was still disappointing. Our bowling was always good. It was our batting that was disappointing. We lost because we did not held our catches or because of a batting collapse.

Now let me look at our present team. In the end of 2013 we had a good odi unit. Our bowling was among the best. I watched them defend scores between 200 to 250 when other teams were chasing above 300. Our batting was settling down. Misbah was the top run getter in odi’s. Muhammad Hafeez was second in that list. Ahmad Shahzad was giving us consistent starts. But as the batting settled down something started happening to our bowling. After a year and half, No Saeed Ajmal and Muhammad Hafeez. Junaid Khan is injured. We don’t have three of our first choice bowlers. We relied on them for last three years. They won matches for us that we should have lost. Regardless of opposition I always knew that Hafeez would be economical, Ajmal would perform. Junaid was becoming more and more reliable. Now we are without them. Ehsan Adil , Sohail Khan and Yasir Shah have not even played 10 odi’s So we can’t ask much of them. Wahab Riaz is a wicket taker but expensive. Muhammad Irfan will always be a threat but he is injury prone. In the past he always had support from other end. We need another all rounder beside Afridi. As always our batting is not reliable. World cup is 10 days away and we are getting one bad news after another.

But still I hope. Yes even after knowing that this might be our weakest world cup team. I still hope that it might be our year. Can Misbah and Afridi retire on a high note. It is unlikely. Most probably we will lose in quarter finals or crash out in group stage but still I hope for a miracle. Coming days are not bright for our team. With no cricket at home, our team is not going to get better. Younis, Misbah, Hafeez and Afridi may be the only players in this team who have played in Pakistan. Why do I still hope? I have no answer but I can’t lose hope. I am hoping for a miracle.
